Moving tips
Moving Day TIPS –
1. Be at location when movers arrive.
2. An authorized person to sign should be at location.
a. Review all paperwork from movers when they arrive before signing.
b. Make sure your AmeriMovers.com Work Order items are same as items listed with movers.
3. Clear a path where truck will be and where items to be moved are located.
4. Save a space for the movers to park so you are not charged for a long walk.
5. Movers may have dirty shoes, so lay down something to minimize the tracking.
6. Separate all items being packed for the move from those being transported by you to prevent any confusion during loading.
7. If there are items you can move yourself, move them.
8. Disassemble & reassemble as many items as possible.
9. Be as specific as possible when completing the online form so you will not be charged any extra fees from the movers.
Other Information You Should Know
:
The cheapest estimate or quote might not be the best! Some, less qualified movers might overlook belongings while estimating. In the end your move might be more expensive then initially estimated. Be sure that all your belongings are carefully noted and calculated. You can prevent financial surprises in your moving budget by checking and listing all of your belongings on the work order.
The more items you forget, the more you will get charged after you have moved. Make a list of all your belongings per room, which have to be moved.
Extra charges or additional transportation charges can be made for long carries, stairs, elevators, moving a car, or pianos, disconnecting washers, dryers, gas stoves and shuttling (needing multiple small trucks instead of 1 for narrow streets).
Book On-Time – By booking on-time, your move will cost you less than if you were to book at the last minute. The movers are better able to plan ahead and more efficiently place your move on the schedule.
Packing Your Own Boxes – You will want to pack all items so that if a box is dropped nothing will break. Moving companies in most all cases will not insure a box that was not packed by them.
Stairs – If there are stairs inside your residence, then you could save money by moving as many items to the main lower level. This will save the movers valuable time and keep money in your pocket.
Disassemble – Disassembling your goods yourself will save you a lot of money. Movers can disassemble them for you but this will cost you extra. What items need disassembling? Think about beds, closets, wall units. Disconnect your washers, dryers, stoves, fridge etc., yourself. Movers can charge you extra for it.
Possible Extra Charges – Movers can charge you additional services for packing, appliance servicing, unpacking, stair/long carries that are needed, moving a car or pianos, disconnecting washers, dryers, gas stoves dishwashers, and any other items that need to be disconnected for the move.
